Attitude about Money
My attitude towards money is that there is an abundance of it to be earned and that it should always be used to do good in the world. One of my favorite scriptures that the author of this article shared was Jacob 2:19, "After ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good - to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted." We must first develop a faith and hope in Christ and know that He is able to do all things and anything. Then we must use our blessings to do good to those around us by serving and helping other who are in need.
My mindset is that there is an abundance of money to be had and my husband’s mindset is that there is always a scarcity of money. It has been fascinating in our marriage with our mentalities being opposites. It has helped us balance each other out. I am always on the optimistic side that things will always work out, and they usually always do. My husband always tends to be on the pessimistic side where he doesn’t see how things will work out. I have had to teach him how to use positive affirmations to draw positive intentions about money so he can see the blessings we do receive. Our attitude about money affects our way of life in that it can cause me to be a frivolous spender at times and him to be a frustrated penny pincher. The rules recommended in this article for prospering is “1) Seek the Lord and have hope in him, 2) Keep the commandments, that includes the temporal ones, tithing and fast offerings, 3) Think about money and plan how you can become self-reliant, 4) Take advantage of chances for learning so you will not be ignorant of these matters with education, as President Hinckley, 5) Learn the laws upon which the blessings of wealth are predicated and 6) Do not send away the naked, the hungry, the thirsty or the sick or those who are held captive.” I look forward to applying these principles in my own life and future business.
