Take Control of Your Life
Elder Joseph B Wirthlin taught that the little things are very important. He first teaches about the importance of managing our time. He says, “Each minute is a little thing and yet, with respect to our personal productivity, to manage the minute is the secret of success.” Our relationship with ourselves is most important by taking care of ourselves, especially our health and mental well-being. Our relationship with others is important and we must treat them as the Savior would treat them, with patience and long suffering. Our relationship with God is most important because he created us with godly character traits. He reminded us that because He created us that “by small and simple things are great things brought to pass”
I learned this week from Francis Ford Coppola who said how important it is “to do what you love…do it because you’ll be better at it”. How profound this is on how much better and more effective we will be at our careers and business if we love what we do. I believe doing what we love or hating our career truly affects our quality of life and family life.
I learned how important it is for us to work smarter and not harder. It is important for success and our happiness to learn how to make effective choices and decisions in our businesses instead of just working longer hours. We must learn to make sure our priorities are in order and that we are putting our health, our families, and God first.
I especially loved listening to Sharon Mays’ entrepreneurial story in starting up the first fresh salads to go restaurant called Baby Greens in Austin, Texas. She shares several words and quotes to live by. The things in life either “break you and make you bitter or it is the thing that makes you stronger”. She followed her own voice and became more confident in her ideas and decisions. Doing this helps you believe in yourself, trust in yourself, and embrace who you are. You must believe in yourself and your business to keep going when you first start. The only person that can get in your way is yourself. Follow your inner voice and the impressions you get because it’s there for a purpose and a reason. “Find what your dream is and give it life, you never know where its gonna take you.” What an inspiration that is, to follow your dream and learn and grow as you go because you never know where you will end up, but it will always be an experience worth going after and having.
