Priorities
This week I learned from our entrepreneur videos and readings several important messages on being successful with your entrepreneur business and balancing your personal life. Some of the most important pieces of advice that stood out first was by President N. Eldon Tanner when he said, “It is so evident that those who keep on the straight and narrow path leading to their goal, realizing that the straight line is the shortest distance between two points and that detours are very dangerous, are those who succeed in life and enjoy self-realization and achievement. This requires self-control and self-discipline. On the other hand, those who fail to keep their goals in mind and fail to discipline themselves find that they are following detours and paths that lead to failure and destruction.” I realized how much I have seen this play out in my own life and of my family and friends. It is absolutely true and makes all the difference in our lives when we are constantly focusing on our goals and growing. Those that I know that do not do this become stagnant, angry, and miserable people. I love setting goals and always having something to strive for and accomplish.
Another perspective I learned this week is how important it is to focus on our spiritual growth while being an entrepreneur. In a video with Jan Newman from BYU, he talked about how important it is to not get too busy to serve the Lord with callings and ministering, and to make time for our families. He said, “There’s a couple of pieces that you can never let get compromised and that’s your loyalty to the Lord and your loyalty to your family--your spouse--and your family.” I love this reminder because it is so easy for me to get wrapped up in the busiest things and not balance the most important things first. His next piece of advice I feel will be my life motto from now on, “your greatest legacy will be your family and your service in the Kingdom of God.” These are my first priorities as an entrepreneur.
