7 Habits of Highly Effective People
This week we reviewed a summary of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. There are two habits that had the most meaning for me. The first one is Habit #3 - Put First Things First. This habit is a hard one for me to juggle and make sure I’m prioritizing properly. Time management is always my struggle and where I need to put my focus and practice 0oolpto be more successful. The four basic types of activities in this habit are, 1) Important and Urgent, 2) Important and Non-Urgent, 3) Urgent but Not Important, and 4) Not Urgent and Not Important. I learned that the goal is to spend most of our time in the second activity of Important and Non-Urgent because that is where the action and proactive time management activities take place. This habit number three is the most important to me because I see where it can help me be the most productive. Making sure we have our priorities in the right order is a major key component of being successful.
The second important habit that was meaningful to me is Habit #7 – Sharpen the Saw. This was a powerful reminder to me on how important it is to sharpen our saw. We do this by taking the time to build up our physical, spiritual, mental, and social/emotional strength daily. I have found myself many times over the years using a blunt saw and I felt like I was going nowhere and wasting my energy. I now see how important this habit is to be productive and moving forward on our journey.
I now know these seven habits will help fill my life with passion and purpose. Since beginning this class and thinking from an entrepreneurial perspective, I can clearly see how these habits will create a foundation for success. The way these habits are laid out are to first create private victories, and then to move on and build upon those first habits to help others and create public victories. These principles are like the gospel and how they build upon each other “line upon line and precept upon precept”. Building a foundation and is the pivotal to becoming successful.
