Personal Code of Conduct and The Formula

This week in class we studied about Honesty and Business Ethics, and I loved how it had me thinking about my foundational values. In reading a talk by Sheri Dew, "True Blue, Through and Through", she explains that the foundation to our character and to all the other virtues is Integrity. I truly believe that integrity is truly the core to everything we do, and to all the relationships we have in this life. We had to think about our own Personal Code of Conduct and list three things we will always do and three things I will never do. These have always been my core values and beliefs, but I found it even more empowering to write them down this week.

Mine are:

I will NEVER:

1. I will never treat others unfairly.

2. I will never intentionally deceive people.

3. I will never lower my standards for the sake of others.

I will ALWAYS:

1. I will always treat others with respect and fairness.

2. I will always be honest in my dealings with others.

3. I will always take action to help and serve others.

Another important and key thing I learned this week was from a video with Jim Ritchie on what he explains as “The Formula”. It is the formula for success that he has used repeatedly in his life and has proven true. These steps to success are a combination of advice given to him from his Mission President, Elder Haight, before leaving his mission, and from a successful oil tycoon, J. Paul Getty.

The Formula:

1. Get up early

2. Work hard

3. Get your education

4. Find oil

5. Make your mark

6. Prepare to serve/Give Back

This formula is nothing new or earth shattering, but are simple steps of basic and simple actions, done consistently over time, have proven success for many. I look forward to implementing these steps better into my life to achieve better success in my life.
